Transparency Through Technology

This report explores how technology is helping to bridge the gap between current real estate practices and those required to satisfy ever-more demanding ESG criteria.

Using proprietary data gathered by Jimmy Jia, Pi Labs ESG Venture Partner, and expert analysis from Professor Andrew Baum, this report identifies Real Estate practitioners’ biggest barriers to delivering ESG performance, before identifying how those barriers can be overcome.

We suggest that the key ESG issues in real estate are rooted in non-standardised and inaccurate measures of ESG performance and reveal how emerging technology is offering alternative ESG metrics which better benchmark performance. We conclude that the way the industry governs ESG performance has been overlooked in the current ESG agenda, leading to unsustainable practices despite positive intentions, and that industry-wide investment into transparent, data-driven governance metrics is needed to fulfil sustainability objectives.

We are pleased to offer this work as a guide to overcoming the challenges of ESG measurement, a necessary first step in making essential improvements to the performance of property organisations. Download the full report below.
